Quote of the Day
“The good things in life take time.”
— John O’Connor, IOHK African Operations Director
The good things in life take time. This is absolutely true. On so many levels.
John O’Connor has personal experience with this reality.
He’s been living in Africa for years, working hard to cultivate opportunities for Cardano to bring decentralized financial services to one of the largest unbanked geographic regions of the world.
It’s hard, tireless work. I’ve talked about it in prior newsletters. Someone has to do it and John has decided to take up the charge and be one of those people
The picture above is from November of 2019. John is at a Bitcoin and blockchain meetup in Ethiopia. You may not recognize him, but Jack Dorsey - the founder and CEO of Twitter - is sitting right there with this small group.
Jack is a huge advocate of Bitcoin and also understands the importance of Africa over the coming decades. After this trip, Jack Dorsey announced plans to spend 3-6 months in Africa over the coming year, saying at the time,
“Africa will define the future (especially the bitcoin one!). Not sure where yet, but I’ll be living here for 3-6 months mid 2020.”
However, this was right before the pandemic began and that changed his plans as it did most of the world.
But John has been in Africa during the pandemic. If I remember correctly from AMAs, there were even times where he lost contact with his Cardano leadership. It’s not been easy.
There is big Cardano Africa news being announced this week and we have John, Lars, Charles and many others like them to thank.
We also have the leaders of Ethiopia to thank. They’re trying something new. It takes vision and leadership to be the first ones to do something. It’s not without risk, but it comes with great potential rewards for the people of Ethiopia. Thank you for giving the Cardano this opportunity! It’s going to be a huge step forward for Ethiopia and Cardano.
Good things in life take time, and not just calendar time, but people’s time. Thank you to everyone that has played a part in this big step forward!
Cardano Updates
Here is the really big news of the day
.@InputOutputHK partners w/ #Ethiopia's Ministry of Education to create a #blockchain-based national student & teacher ID and attainment recording system to digitally verify grades, monitor school performance and boost nationwide education. #CardanoAfricaEthiopia’s education minister is quoted in DealBook as saying, “We believe blockchain offers a key opportunity to end digital exclusion and widen access to higher education and employment.” In my opinion, Ethiopia’s leaders are visionaries and will go down in history as being responsible for paving the way to economic expansion and prosperity not just to Ethiopia, but the larger African continent.
I did get a chuckle out of reading the news. The articles made me think of how blockchain will now make it impossible for Ethiopian students to pull a Ferris Bueller or a Wargames maneuver and reduce their sick days or change their grades.
The beauty of blockchain is that it makes it impossible to go back and change historical records. Our money literally depends on this.
There was a lot of great media coverage on this announcement yesterday and I was really pleased to see that leading into the Africa Special on Thursday. Don’t miss it!

In The News
Chris and I finalized our NFT Key proposal last night. The next step for Fund 5 of Project Catalyst is the “Assess” stage where our proposal will be reviewed by community experts. We’ve worked hard to gather feedback, adjust accordingly and establish collaborative partnerships in the community.
We hope to receive positive feedback during the Assess stage as a result. If you’ve not done so before, familiarize yourself with the process of registering to vote in Project Catalyst as soon as possible so that you are prepared to register and vote for our project. (the voting timeline for Fund 5 is still a little uncertain)
I’m launching my first Cardano NFT! Keep an eye on my twitter feed for your chance to snap this one of a kind piece. Teaser - it’s not just a still image.
Technical Analysis
Cardano ADA is eating away at the remaining resistance around the 2017/18 highs. (horizontal red line at $1.319).
That level is going to become strong support soon and that support will propel Cardano to new all time highs.
The roll-out of the Ethiopia Partnership ahead of the special event didn’t seem like a mistake. It was a planned roll-out IMHO. That means there’s more great info to come.
In fact, Charles said yesterday in a video update that there are more announcements to come at the Africa Special.
I expect new highs and price discovery very soon. $2 may not hit before the end of April, but I see it in the not too distant future.
I’m still expecting significantly more upside during this bull cycle and I expect the 2017/18 highs to server as very strong support during any future pullback. It’s why I said on Twitter last night
